Devlog #1: Presenting our idea

Hi, we’re Level-Up Labs, and here we are presenting an interesting project we’ve started working on. Our goal is to develop a video game inspired by OverCooked, called OverBrewed, where you and your friends become little alchemists in charge of running a potion store. Here, clients will come to you with their pains and ailments, and request you brew potions for them with magical properties.

We seek to approach the idea from a slightly different perspective, here are some ideas we would like to implement:

  • Requests from clients will not show you directly which potion you have to prepare, instead you will have to gather clues from your clients request, and compare them to a potion codex that contains recipes for brewing different types of potions. Only then you will be able to prepare the correct thing. Be sure to prepare the right thing, unexpected things could happen otherwise, and your client certainly will not like that.
  • Not only that, but you will also be able to drink the potions you prepare. You will have to be careful with the effects of what you drink though, as their effects could benefit you, but they can also be, let's say, problematic. You could drink a speed potion to allow you to outrun all your friends in the map, but you could also drink a sleep potion, making you sleep on the job for a while. Other types of potions could make their way into the game, such as poison potions (Could kill you slowly unless you have an antidote) or strength potions (Could allow you to carry more stuff at once). It’s a work in progress.
  • Game difficulty will not be dictated by the map itself (that’s out of scope), but by the potion recipes themselves. For example, the difference between the recipe for a health potion and a poison potion could be as subtle as the difference between cilantro and parsley, and as we established earlier, your clients or your partners will not appreciate you giving them a poison potion instead of a health one. This could cause chaos and confusion among players.
  • To achieve this, as developers, we will have to implement a sufficiently large variety of effects with their corresponding potions, and also an assortment of magical ingredients that players will have at their disposal. These ingredients will have to be mixed, processed and brewed with appropriate alchemy equipment such as cauldrons, mortars and others.

We hope to have updates on the development of this game very soon, but until then, have a nice day 🙂
